The Winnipeg Blue Bombers arrived in B.C. in preparation for the 99th Grey Cup game this Sunday. The hosting Lions have been there for several weeks already and are prepared to battle in front of a sold out home crowd.

Former Lions quarterback Buck Pierce will return to helm the Bombers in the big game. He was hampered by a nagging knee injury toward the end of the season, but was strong in the Eastern Final last Sunday against Hamilton. During the season, Pierce won both contents against the Lions, throwing for 443 yards and a touchdown in the two games.
Running back Chris Garrett got into the final six games of the season for Winnipeg and was excellent. He rushed for a total of 576 yards and four touchdowns, including two games where he had more than 130 yards, and a two-touchdown game. Garrett’s explosive offensive ability led his team to a victory last week, rushing for 190 yards and a touchdown. As the Lions had not seen Garrett during the season, he’ll be a wild card in the Bombers’ offensive game.
Meanwhile, “Swaggerville” was a major story for most of the season. The Blue Bombers’ defense was the best in the league at stopping the passing game, and they’ll need that swagger in full force against Travis Lulay. Odell Willis led the CFL with 13 sacks, but was equally effective in the backfield.
With the uncommon situation of an actual home-field advantage, it will be crucial for the Bombers to get out to an early lead to keep the crowd noise down. If Lulay gets a chance to break out, or the Lions shut down Winnipeg’s offense, it could be a long, disappointing day for the visiting Blue Bombers.
